To be expectant for the coming of Imam Mahdi, and be prepared for his advent is one of the important manifestations and issues related to Islamic Saviorism, which has been significantly reflected in the researches of Orientalists on Mahdism; yet, unfortunately, it has not been analyzed and criticized independently and concentratedly. The definition of Awaiting and its importance, reviewing the traditions of Awaiting, inquiring about the process of the formation of this concept, and also historical instances of the manifestation of Awaiting among Muslims are among the most important fields that Western scholars have researched and commented on. The present paper, through adopting an exploratory method and by the maximum studying of the orientalists Mahdiologists’ views, explores and analyzes the orientalists’ viewpoints on this issue. The most important allegation of the orientalists about Intiẓār (Awaiting the advent of Imam Mahdi) is its formation in the course of history, its attribution to Shias, and its lethargic and passive feature, which are briefly analyzed and criticized in this article.
